Metadata Import & Export

Metadata movement in Kaptio DX is package.xml-driven: the package.xml defines exactly which metadata components are in scope, and it lives centrally with the dataset — not on anyone's laptop.

A package.xml managed in Kaptio DX drives an export from the source org into a centrally stored metadata dataset, which is imported into the target org producing a per-component deployment result; failures loop back to fix and re-run with the same dataset and scope

Why not retrieve to a laptop?​

Retrieving metadata locally and deploying org-to-org works — once, for one person. The package.xml ends up in a local folder, the retrieved metadata drifts, and nobody else can see or repeat what was deployed. Kaptio DX keeps the package.xml and every exported component centrally so the whole team shares one source of truth.

Export​

  1. Open Data Management → Metadata → Export.
  2. Choose the source connection.
  3. Select or edit the package.xml defining the scope.
  4. Run the export — the metadata is stored as a dataset.

Import​

  1. Open Data Management → Metadata → Import.
  2. Pick the metadata dataset.
  3. Choose the target connection.
  4. Run the import and review the deployment result.
